The Cold and The Heat

It’s cold outside right now and it’s cold in my apartment. I have two walls of glass. When the sun comes up, I know it. Even with the blinds drawn, it’s hard to shut it out.

Here’s my question, will the heat seep into my apartment in the summer the way the cold comes in during the winter?

It was 68 degrees in my place this morning with the heater knocking on and off during the night. When I opened up the blinds that face east, the temperature shot up three degrees to 71.

Most likely I’ll only get direct sunlight in my apartment for about three hours in the morning (the cooler time of the day). I’m scared I’ll be living in an oven during the summer and the air conditioning bill will be off the hook. By the way, I don’t do heat very well.

Well, at least for now, I don’t have to worry about the heating bill while the sun is out,

Oven Operation

My mother has a rule, when the oven is on, you turn the oven light on, turn off the oven, turn off the oven light. The light reminds you that the oven is on.

The problem yesterday was the light wouldn’t go off. I switched it on but the same switch wouldn’t make it go off.

I called the building manager and they took care of it. It was off when I came back home.

The building worker left me this note:

“To turn the oven light on, there is a switch on the top of the oven on the left side.”

I’m so happy she cleared that up for me. I laughed when I got home last night. I thought the note was idiotic but I wonder if she thought the same thing about me.

Time To Relax

After going just slightly less than crazy trying to get my new apartment in order, I’m taking today off. The laundry, the dishes and the trash can wait until tomorrow.

Today is a day that’s all about kickin’ back and loungin’ a little. I may take some pictures of the place and post them later today if I feel up to it. 🙂

So far, I have to admit I’m loving living downtown. The drive back and forth to work is so quick. I love Steelyard Commons for my Target and Wal-Mart needs. I just went to the Westside Market for the first time in my life last week and it looks like a great place. I can’t wait to explore it more.

Happy New Year and here’s to a rest filled day!

Vacation?

I managed to take a lot of my vacation this month. I didn’t realize how much I would actually need it when I asked for it off. I’m just about finished getting my place ready for the move east to downtown Cleveland. Things are boxed up and only the essentials are accessible.

It’s my Christmas present to myself. It feels a lot like December 20th will be the big day for me. I’ll end up at Target that evening getting a TV stand and maybe a couple other things but it’s like that day can’t come soon enough for me. I’ll have pictures up during the big move and of the new place here on the blog. It’s going to be great.

I had a total sports weekend. My friend, Katie, asked me to the Cavs game. They lost but the seats were great and it was great hanging out with her and my other friend, Kevin. Things worked out that we were all able to sit together. Enough said on that subject. We braved the weather getting there and didn’t have to worry too much about the drive home. Thanks Katie for the ticket!

Kevin and I braved the weather today and went to the Browns game. They WON and on any other day, they wouldn’t have been the most preferable seats in the stadium but today, they were just the right ones. We were in the upper bowl and had a roof over our heads. It sheilded us from the snow for the most part. We still got socked by the wind and some of the snow it kicked around but I can’t complain one bit. It was a great game and Phil Dawson knocked another miracle kick through the uprights. Odd score: Buffalo 0, Cleveland 8. That’s the first time that score has hit since 1929. Thanks Kevin for the ticket. It’s great hanging out with him and I’m not just saying that because he reads this blog. He’s been a great friend for more than 30 years.

The countdown to the move? 4 days

The Countdown Is On…

It’s unbelievable that I have only nine nights left in my apartment before the big move to my new apartment. When I told my friend that I had to stop and think about the fact it was, a fact.

I went by my new place tonight to try to find a couple of different ways to the place. The best part, I was there in no time.

I’m looking forward to it,

Crunchtime!

If the holidays aren’t busy enough, as you know, I’m juggling a move from my current apartment to one downtown Cleveland. This weekend brought a welcome delivery, Ayden, into our lives. I’m putting together two “This Is Your Life” videos for my parents, see this post for more details. Now, I’m also putting together a video of Ayden from my visit to the hospital yesterday. I’ve been packing and editing all day today so I decided to sit down and blog a little.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Where did it go so fast? Go Browns!

Everything’s Happening Fast…

It’s been a little while since I had a good life update post. So here goes…

I’m mulling over a move to downtown Cleveland from my apartment complex in the ‘burbs. The place isn’t raising the rent but now wants to charge me $60 more a month for my attached garage. It’s just not economically worth it with the rising prices of gas to continue living where I am right now. I’m looking at a couple of different places and have some appointments later this week. I really don’t want to leave my apartment because it’s where I’ve called home for two years (rough years at that) but it’s probably time to break out of my comfort zone and take on a new experience.

I am going to enjoy December. I have a lot of days off work. I think I work a grand total of 14 days. I’m off the rest of them. My sister is going to give birth to my third nephew. I can’t wait to see the little bugger. That should happen sometime around December 20th. It’s the holidays and I have more to celebrate this year.

The remainder of this week is busy. Tomorrow is the end of the November ratings period. I hope we’ll eek out a second place win for my newscast. Hopefully, “Dancing With The Stars” viewers will like what we put in our newscast and we’ll have a big number to catapult us over the top. I am going to my nephews’ school tomorrow. I haven’t seen Spencer since he came down with the kidney infection. (He’s doing better!) On Thursday, I have lunch with a friend. Friday through Tuesday are my days to do whatever. However, they could be filled with me looking for an apartment.

Anyone who reads this blog got any good suggestions on a good building? I’ll take them. Enjoy your Wednesday!!
