The Battle Of The Sexes

There have been books written, TV documentaries produced, studies conducted (see my thoughts on studies a little later in this post) about the battle of the sexes. I have to take exception with the constant comparision between men and women. I’m so sick of things being a “guy” or “girl” thing.

“Girls get over relationships faster than guys.” someone will say. “Guys get over relationships faster than girls.” someone else will counter. We’re all human, people, we all deal with life in our own ways. Stereotyping one sex a certain way is just that, a stereotype. We are all human!

In one of her recent posts, Mom2Amara blogged about “girl talk” and how a new study says it’s bad for women to do. Focusing on the negatives and trying to one up the other person with their story of misery. Side note: I think we should study the amount of studies being done out there.

As I commented on her blog, it’s not just a girl thing. Again, we are all human and everyone out there likes to know they’re not the only people out there who are suffering or feeling miserable. What do we share more often, our happiness or our discontent? I’d argue the latter.

How many time have you heard on the phone, at work or at home these kinds of phrases?

  • “I work too much”
  • “I didn’t get enough sleep last night”
  • “I have so much to do”

Conversely, when was the last time anyone of us started our sentence with “Hey, what’s up, i’m having a fantastic day”? If you do that, people will think you’re mentally unstable. We’re for the most part, a negative group, humans, that is. In fact, most times at work when people ask me how I’m doing I normally answer back “Fantastic” but it’s not in a believable fashion. It makes people laugh, mostly and allows me not to lie.

Do you believe all of these studies? Do you think men and women are that drastically different?

Run, Baby, Run!

I’m trying to keep a more accurate journal of my running. Today, I backed off a little bit and got 5 miles in. I’m trying to keep it around 6 or 7. I don’t know much else that can clear my head and get my mood to change so drastically.

I’ve been asked to do some blogging about changes in the television industry. A series of blog posts on that topic is just ahead. Also, I have a couple of rant posts upcoming (call them evergreens).

They are:

  • McDonald’s just bulldozes their restaurants and then reconstructs them.
  • No paper towels in businesses, just hand dryers
  • Music that’s got me listening

That’s three blog posts today and a run. Good times…

Midnight Confessions

Okay, it’s more like 4:48am and it’s because I’m not asleep yet. Of course, I’m watching BBAD. Zach is HOH. Zach, Daniele and Dick have a side alliance going. Eric is devastated. Jameka and Jessica are up on the block. That’s most of the crawl that they put on SHO TOO.

Here’s the confession. Tonight was interesting. I went to Momocho in Ohio City. It’s the old Fulton Bar & Grille. I’m shocked that the restaurant closed because back in the day you’d have to have reservations to get a seat there. The service at Momocho was slow and the food was okay. We asked for sour cream and our meal was almost finished before it arrived. The place brought back bad memories of a happier time in my life. My former girlfriend and I enjoyed dinner there. That was the last time when I visited the place. Ohio City confuses me.

After that, we went down to the Warehouse District and stopped at Mercury Lounge. That was another stop that was a bad memory. I can’t believe I still see some of the people who would be out back in the day, they’re still out. I guess the same thing could be said of me but I was in a long term relationship and out of the state for years. It’s funny.

I don’t have the stomach for West 6th anymore. It’s a bunch of people who are out of control and just out so they can be seen. I choose not to go down there anymore but tonight was a special event. One of my friends is moving out of town so it was her going-away party. Exceptions to the rules… (a rare exception!!!)

I’ll still take my peeps at the South Side who are awesome people and always make us welcome! That’s the most of the midnight confession you’re gonna get for this evening!

Baby Workout

After more than a month back from my trip which destroyed my workout routine, I’m finally about back to where I was. I ran five miles today without much huffing and puffing. I’m trying to get back to the seven miles I was running pre-European trip.

Looking forward: to tonight’s Big Brother episode, I want to see if the producers work last night’s catfight between ED and Jen into the show. to reading what Daniele and Amber got to do during their trip out of the house.

Looking back: on a good night of sleep. 3:00am – 11:00am. I believe that adds up to 8 hours. NICE!

Life, In A Nutshell

When you’re 18, you think have the world figured out. When you’re 28, you realize you didn’t know anything when you were 18, but now know you understand life and all of its challenges. At 34, I realize I had no idea what I was thinking at 18 or 28. I still don’t understand my lot in life. I know who I am. I’m happy to at least have that.

I was just looking at my blog and realized in just three days, I’ll have been blogging for two years. One of my first few posts reminded me of something. I wrote, I make friends wherever I go. Coming back to Cleveland, I’ve made so many good friends. I’m blessed for having many longtime friendships. I’m also blessed to have new friends. One person I’ve met just got offered a job of a lifetime. She’s taking it but it involves a move. I hope we will be friends forever because she’s just quickly become one of my most favorite people. I’ve been fortunate to meet so many quality people in my life. They far outweigh the shabby people who’ve passed through my life. I know there are people who I can call at any time of the day and they’ll listen to what I have to say. Of course, there are also my friends who’ll have a lot to say back! I value that too!

I know the feeling of bittersweetness. Right now, I have a content smile on my face. God has blessed me with unequaled support and surrounded me with loyal friends.

Is It Friday Yet?

I’m looking forward to this weekend. Heck, I’m looking forward to June in general. This weekend (yes, weekend) is the bachelor party for my friend, Brad. It should be quite a time. Golf, dinner, partying and just an all around celebration.

Next week, I have a four day week. Nope, I don’t get Memorial Day but I’m not working on Friday. Scott Smith (see earlier post) is playing at Flannery’s so I’m trying to make his Cleveland visit well attended. He’s great and has a good CD. That’s June 1st and 2nd.

There’s the BNL concert later in the month, there’s the countdown to the wedding in Europe and about 15 other things going on I have on my calendar. I never needed one before. Is it just that I’m getting old? I’ll thank you not to answer that one.

Confession: Last week was a rough one. It was busy, exhausting and I let somethings slide. This one is going better. I’m back on my workout regiment that I’ve done since September. Yesterday’s workout left me sore this morning so either I’m rebuilding the muscle I lost or I just had a good workout. How much protein should I consume?!? Speaking of which, I’m off to run now.

Final Thought: I would have blogged about the “Heroes” season finale but I will this week. I’m still sorting out all of the twists and turns. I don’t know if I agree logistically with all of the storyline. There’s more to come on this subject

Suddenly Saturday…

Out of nowhere the week is over and it’s suddenly Saturday. I’m going to spend the day catching up on everything around the house. It needs a little TLC after a crazy week of being here, there and everywhere. I have to workout, get a new wine glass (I broke one of them in my set — It’s just a trip to World Market. I hate not having the right amount. Call me crazy but it’s what I do best!) One of my friends is celebrating her 30th birthday a couple of days after the fact this evening and I promised an appearance. That’ll be after a nap later today.

The interesting thing is June will be even nuttier than May has been. I have two concerts and that looming trip to Europe which I still haven’t bought tickets for. That purchase will be made tomorrow after brainstorming my itinerary today. I found out from my great aunt that my great grandfather’s grandparents (try to follow me) lived in Basel, Switzerland. I believe that will be part of my trip and I think I’m flying back to Cleveland from Paris. I may end up leaving all of my money in Europe but what the heck, right?!?

That brings me to one of the concerts I’m going to see next month, The Barenaked Ladies. I have to figure out a way to meet them. Jennie did it with G. Love (that is meet him!) I’m thinking about e-mailing their management company. If that falls short, I’m gonna call in some favors from some of my radio friends. I’ve been a fan (although I hate that word) since 1991 and if you do the math, that means 16 years, folks! It’s probably time we get to trade pleasantries and photos. I also have to figure out how to get the rest of my people backstage as well. Any ideas I didn’t think about? Leave me a comment

Days Go By… (The I’m Post)

Ain’t life crazy sometimes. You work, you sleep and you do it all again with some crazy fits of variety!

I’m really happy with myself. I’m working out (like I’ve never done before.) One of my friends and I are going to run either a half-marathon or a 10k. We don’t know which one because I don’t want to get out on the course and have my body breakdown. It’s funny because I didn’t know I had packed on that much extra weight over the last few years. I’ve lost 25 pounds or so and I’m feeling great.

I’m cooking like I’ve never cooked before. I’m finding out the magic that lies in no-preparation cooking. If you don’t know about it, it’s called a crock pot and you can make some healthy food, put the food in, put it on low and go to sleep. Also, I’ve been trying out new food for some of my friends. It’s good when they’re the guinea pigs!

I’m preparing for two great vacations (more coming on these soon!) Places that I’ve always wanted to go but for some reason or another wasn’t able. By the way, the dang government is taking forever to get passports completed.

I’m also getting projects (like the CD project) accomplished. I’ve also just finished rearranging my sock drawer. That took like a week! (Okay, I hope you know I’m joking!)

I’m also truly happy to say I’ve got a great new compliment of friends to add to an already great group of people. Some of them are lawyers and you know you’ll end up needing one of them sometime. Word up, Luke, Carlos and Brad! Moving back to Cleveland has really been a good thing.

Now just bring me Spring weather. In case you didn’t know, Spring starts officially around 8pm.

CD Ripping Update: I’m up to “Huey Lewis” now.
