That's a lot of caulk, Brad!
Water Falling Inside Ain’t Good!
Rainy Days and Mondays… hmm, sort of!
It was Monday and sort of rainy but it wasn’t Mother Nature’s work. Nope, this would be the water coming from a malfunctioning sprinkler head that soaked my new apartment building.
The atrium looked more like the bottom of a water fall. You could see the water cascading down the different floors from the 9th floor. There was water coming from everywhere.
Now I know what happens during a fire alarm. There’s actually a little red speaker (that’s it to the left) in my apartment that actually tells me to leave. It goes a little something like this “Attention, an emergency has been reported. Please leave the building immediately. Do not take the elevator.”
It’s loud and it’s annoying. It’ll get you up and get your attention.
I hope I never hear it again!
My Grammy Review
It was no shocker that Amy Winehouse took home big honors Sunday night winning five awards including Record of the Year. She performed in London. Initially, the U.S. denied Winehouse a visa but then on Friday reversed that decision. However, it was too late to get Winehouse over to the states for the big ceremony. She performed live and accepted Record of the year via satellite.
Kanye West also had a moment during the ceremony when he accepted a Grammy. He mentioned his mother, Donda West and said “I know you’re really proud of me right now and I know you want me to be the No. 1 artist in the world and Mama, all I’m going to do is keep making you proud. We run this.” West performed in an electrified suit and glow in the dark sunglasses.
You had to get chills twice during the ceremony when Beyonce joined Tina Turner for a rendition of “Proud Mary”. Turner can still turn it out even at 68 years old. You also have to give respect to the Queen of Soul, Aretha Frankin as she stirred the crowd during a gospel number.
Rhianna looked stunning, sporting a new haircut she continually said “looks a little boyish.” She also did a great job belting out a medley of her hits.
Good Grammy show this year,
Coming Soon…
Or should it be opening soon??
A new multi-purpose business is opening in my building. I don’t have the exact names of all of the places but it’s a martini bar, coffeehouse, and a convenience store.
I just toured the place moments ago and met the owner, Twyla. She’s done a great job of putting together a business that should cater to people living on the west bank of the Flats.
Those of you who know me know I don’t drink caffeine so the coffeehouse, Mocha (I think) is off limits. There’s a breakfast bar and a pizza oven that’s accessible through the mouth of a giant mask (New Orleans style) artwork on the wall.
The martini bar has fiber optic lights in it that light up at night. Twyla tells me she drilled all of the holes in the bar herself before installing the optics. The furnishings throughout the place are modern just like the structure of the building remodel.
However, the building was once the home of Cantina del Rio when the west bank was still hopping. Things have changed since then, T.G.I.Fridays has closed down. Shooters, Christies, Howl at the Moon are still here anchoring the west bank. I can’t forget about the Flat Iron, which technically is on the east bank. It’s still a good place to eat. There’s also McCarthy’s and the Harbor Inn which have both been around for years.
So this is growth, Cleveland. Get behind it and relish what someone who is a native Clevelander who’s come back to her hometown and is giving back to her city with the opening of a new business that offers far more than food, drinks and coffee. There are groceries, concierge, services, even lottery tickets.
Oh, Twyla promises me they will have 1% milk. That’s a must for me.
Grand opening is around the 20th… be sure to check it out,
Here Comes The Sun?
If you know me, you know I love my seasons. I can’t wait for the first snow. I love the fall colors. There are few things better than the feeling of running around wearing shorts. Can you think of a better smell than spring?
Seriously, Cleveland, How Are You?
Seriously, Cleveland, How Are You?
Hello again, Cleveland! It’s me, Bob Seger. You may recall me from the rock-and-roll concert last night. First off, let me say that it was such an…
The Michiganer reaches out to Buckeyes. Check out Bob Seger’s supposed message to Cleveland via the ONION. It’s a funny read. Is there a Kohl’s coming to Steelyard Commons?
Oven Operation
My mother has a rule, when the oven is on, you turn the oven light on, turn off the oven, turn off the oven light. The light reminds you that the oven is on.
The problem yesterday was the light wouldn’t go off. I switched it on but the same switch wouldn’t make it go off.
I called the building manager and they took care of it. It was off when I came back home.
The building worker left me this note:
“To turn the oven light on, there is a switch on the top of the oven on the left side.”
I’m so happy she cleared that up for me. I laughed when I got home last night. I thought the note was idiotic but I wonder if she thought the same thing about me.
Valentine’s Day
I do not (as mom2amara says) heart Valentine’s Day. I didn’t like it when I was in a relationship and I don’t like it now. Guys don’t look forward to it. Mostly it means buying something for your girlfriend.
If you love someone, surprise them with a gift every now and then, it’s much more special and spontaneous than knowing you have to come up with something for Valentine’s Day. It’s the same feeling I have for Sweetest Day.
Don’t get me wrong, I think I can be romantic as much as anyone else, just don’t force some day I have to do something for someone else on me.
So keep your Vermont Teddy Bears, your heart shaped box of chocolates and your overpriced Valentine’s Day cards, I don’t want them!
Have a great Tuesday!
