Mom’s Sugar Cookies

Cookie Ingredients

1 cup of butter or margarine
1 1/8 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon vanilla
2 Eggs
2 tablespoons milk
3 cups of flour

2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
Thoroughly cream shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add eggs. Beat until light and fluffy. Sift dry ingredients together. Blend milk into creamed mixture. Add dry ingredients. Mix. Divide dough in half. Chill 1 hour
On lightly floured surface roll to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into shapes. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375° for 6-8 minutes. Cool slightly and remove from pan

(Makes about 3 dozen)


1/2 stick of butter
1 pound of powdered sugar
1 teaspoon of lemon flavoring
splash of milk

  1. Yum! They would be nice for Christmas baking, too. Only thing is, I'm wondering if I can use real lemons in the icing….we kinda have a tree and right now it's loaded with lemons!
