With his team’s loss to the Cleveland Indians, you have to wonder how much time Joe Torre has left with the Yankees organization. Over the weekend, his boss didn’t mince words about Torre’s future if the Yankees lost in the ALDS.
“His job is on the line,” George Steinbrenner told The Record of New Jersey. “I think we’re paying him a lot of money. He’s the highest-paid manager in baseball, so I don’t think we’d take him back if we don’t win this series.”
The 67-year-old manager has earned $7.5 million this year in the final season of his contract. As of Tuesday, Steinbrenner hasn’t acted on his words.
Good luck Joe, Yankees fans love you, Indians fans respect you. We’re just happy we beat you!
