Is It Friday Yet?

I’m looking forward to this weekend. Heck, I’m looking forward to June in general. This weekend (yes, weekend) is the bachelor party for my friend, Brad. It should be quite a time. Golf, dinner, partying and just an all around celebration.

Next week, I have a four day week. Nope, I don’t get Memorial Day but I’m not working on Friday. Scott Smith (see earlier post) is playing at Flannery’s so I’m trying to make his Cleveland visit well attended. He’s great and has a good CD. That’s June 1st and 2nd.

There’s the BNL concert later in the month, there’s the countdown to the wedding in Europe and about 15 other things going on I have on my calendar. I never needed one before. Is it just that I’m getting old? I’ll thank you not to answer that one.

Confession: Last week was a rough one. It was busy, exhausting and I let somethings slide. This one is going better. I’m back on my workout regiment that I’ve done since September. Yesterday’s workout left me sore this morning so either I’m rebuilding the muscle I lost or I just had a good workout. How much protein should I consume?!? Speaking of which, I’m off to run now.

Final Thought: I would have blogged about the “Heroes” season finale but I will this week. I’m still sorting out all of the twists and turns. I don’t know if I agree logistically with all of the storyline. There’s more to come on this subject

Not So Suddenly Saturday

It’s not so suddenly Saturday this week. I’m happy it is however. Didn’t I just blog about my house being a complete mess? I look back at this past week with a smile and a little exhaustion. I had a great night after work on Wednesday. You know who you are, thank you for that! The next day I was at the Twins vs. Indians game. The Tribe won. Thank you Indians for that. Last night, not so good, see Today’s Bad (below). But now it’s time to rest, relax a little and have a little fun this weekend. I’ve earned it. The week ahead? Three more days to the end of sweeps. Thanks for that. So…

With the flight booked, plans made, the passport has arrived. Now, let the countdown begin to Europe! I’m going to spend part of this weekend figuring out the itinerary. I’ll also have to make some hotel reservations. We’re flying out of Cleveland to Amsterdam for the wedding then back from Paris. Somehow, the journey must be made from The Netherlands to France, with a stop in Switzerland.

United States Postal Service slip-up: When I got my priority mail return envelope, the postal clerk didn’t charge me for the new rate. I had postage due on my passport so the Government wanted $1.85 from me. The postal clerk rang my doorbell but by the time I got there, she’d left. I had to get up this morning and go to the Post Office to claim the envelope and pay the extra cash.

Today’s Good: I got my passport so another one portion of the trip is complete. Even though, I had to jump through a couple of hoops to get it. I know after the trip, I’ll be able to report it all being worth it.

Today’s Bad: It’s a bad one too. The “Q” phone is on the fritz. I have to take it back to the Sprint store and claim a new one. The LCD screen is bunko. Not cool. The phone works but
the most important part otherwise doesn’t. Thank God I have Sprint insurance. I’m not paying the deductible though. I’ve only had the phone for just more than 45 days. How’s it supposed to last two years?

(Today’s Good & Bad’s done with the utmost respect to mom2amara.com — check out her blog and the wii video with the baby laughing. It’ll bring a smile to your face.)

What You’ll Be Watching…

I got an advanced look at some of the shows ABC has on its Fall line-up. Fan favorites “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Desperate Housewives”, Ugly Betty”, “Boston Legal” and “Dancing With The Stars” all return next season. However, there are some good shows on the horizon that could strengthen ABC’s primetime ratings. Here are a couple of them that have hit potential.

You have to mention “Private Practice”, the “Grey’s Anatomy” spinoff. It has a huge shot at getting fans to tune in each week. The show stars Dr. Addison Shepard (Kate Walsh). She moves from Seattle to Los Angeles. 21 million people earlier this month watched the special “Grey’s Anatomy” that served as the show’s pilot. It’ll air Wednesdays at 9pm.

“Big Shots” follows the lives of four party-hard CEO’s. You’ll know all of the lead actors. Dylan McDermott, Christopher Titus, Joshua Malina and Michael Vartan star in the show. “Big Shots” is a comedy-drama that promises to be one of the big fall hits. The upfront delivered laughs even though I didn’t know the storyline.

Peter Krause stars in “Dirty Sexy Money” as attorney Nick George. When his father dies, he takes over his law practice and the wealthy family his father represented. Here’s the problem, Nick has a conscience and the family, the Darlings, doesn’t. He has to get them out of their problems including human trafficking, illegitimate children, and affairs. Donald Sutherland and William Baldwin also star. This show is already picking up all sorts of buzz on the ‘net.

Bookin’ The Flight

The flight to Europe is reserved. Always, however, there’s a story. I booked the flight to Amsterdam and then back from Europe online at continental.com. There must have been some problems with the computer because it returned an error. It advised me to hit the back button and submit the request again. I did this four times and then it said my credit card company turned down the request.

After a call to the company to find out why my credit limit was lowered. It wasn’t. Actually, it was bumped up. My credit card company told me I had four flights to Europe pending on my card. I quickly hung up with the representative and called Continental. They were able to clear three of them off of my card. I have yet to check my balance with my credit card company but I’m assuming it’s okay. Yes, yes, I’m gonna check.

If you didn’t think that was enough, I ended up booking the wrong flight to Amsterdam. Continental, thankfully, changed my flight for free because of the problems with my booking online. Now, things are set for Europe. Honestly, we’re going to have a great time! We can’t wait to go…

Here’s an open call for advice on this trip. We’ll take any suggestions you have to offer, that’ll make this trip one we won’t forget!

Heroes: Landslide

An episode of answers and of course, more twists. At the end of last week’s show it appeared as if Peter wouldn’t be able to control his new power he got from Ted. Fortunately, Peter was able to control the power. Linderman pulled a couple of miracles for Nathan. He got Micah to throw the election by communicating with the voting network. He also healed Nathan’s wife, Heidi and also told him Nathan’s father had “great power”.

Hiro and Ando got a surprise when they went to the sword repair shop and bumped into Hiro’s father. Before we weren’t sure what side he was on but now we know he’s good. Hiro’s father, Kaito, teaches him how to wield a sword in hopes of killing Sylar. When they emerge from the back room where they practiced, they noticed Ando was gone. His father says Ando will probably die if he tries to kill Sylar himself.

Sylar tips off an FBI agent about Ted’s location and she arrests him. Peter and Claire, who were with Ted, managed to escape.

D.L. and Jessica surprise Nathan in his den and tell him about Linderman kidnapping Micah. They then make it to Linderman’s office and face off with him. Linderman goes to shoot Jessica when D.L. steps in the way. Before he falls to the ground, D.L. sticks his hand through Linderman’s brain and pulls it out, killing him. Thanks to the preview, you realize D.L. isn’t dead yet.

Molly, the human Hero tracker, is getting better thanks to Suresh’s treatment. Her ability to find people is slowly coming back. She tracks Matt and tells Suresh he’s nearby. Bennet confronts Thompson and kills him. Bennet finds the room with Molly & Suresh, finds Molly and has her at gunpoint, when Suresh points a gun at him. We last see them stuck in a stalemate.

Sylar stops the FBI carrying Ted. He causes a crash with his powers, opens the door and takes Ted’s ability.

As Nathan gives his acceptance speech, Hiro leaves his father to find Ando before he finds Sylar. The last words you hear in the episode is Sylar saying “Boom!” as he practices his new ability.

We’ll have to wait until next week’s exciting conclusion that’ll no doubt open up more questions.

Suddenly Saturday…

Out of nowhere the week is over and it’s suddenly Saturday. I’m going to spend the day catching up on everything around the house. It needs a little TLC after a crazy week of being here, there and everywhere. I have to workout, get a new wine glass (I broke one of them in my set — It’s just a trip to World Market. I hate not having the right amount. Call me crazy but it’s what I do best!) One of my friends is celebrating her 30th birthday a couple of days after the fact this evening and I promised an appearance. That’ll be after a nap later today.

The interesting thing is June will be even nuttier than May has been. I have two concerts and that looming trip to Europe which I still haven’t bought tickets for. That purchase will be made tomorrow after brainstorming my itinerary today. I found out from my great aunt that my great grandfather’s grandparents (try to follow me) lived in Basel, Switzerland. I believe that will be part of my trip and I think I’m flying back to Cleveland from Paris. I may end up leaving all of my money in Europe but what the heck, right?!?

That brings me to one of the concerts I’m going to see next month, The Barenaked Ladies. I have to figure out a way to meet them. Jennie did it with G. Love (that is meet him!) I’m thinking about e-mailing their management company. If that falls short, I’m gonna call in some favors from some of my radio friends. I’ve been a fan (although I hate that word) since 1991 and if you do the math, that means 16 years, folks! It’s probably time we get to trade pleasantries and photos. I also have to figure out how to get the rest of my people backstage as well. Any ideas I didn’t think about? Leave me a comment

Chicken & Waffles

Many “Yankees” don’t know just how good this interesting food combination can be. I ate Chicken & Waffles for the first time at “The Southside” in Cleveland’s Tremont neighborhood. It’s just one of those things you’ll never forget. The concept is simple; waffles with syrup along with some fried chicken and some hot sauce. Southside’s hot sauce will make you sweat and open your nasal passages. If you’re ever in the neighborhood, the restaurant/bar is located at 2207 W. 11th Street in Cleveland. You can find their website at www.southsidecleveland.com. Make sure you leave a big enough tip for the servers, they deserve it. Don’t take my word about Chicken & Waffles, try it yourself. No one who’s ever had it has been disappointed that I know.
