Cute vs. Hot

Okay, (I always want to begin my posts with that word) I have long struggled with cute vs. hot.

I’m not saying I get called either of them very often but when someone “Anonymous” wrote that “I’m cute” I had to put this post on the Internet. When I do get a compliment, I don’t get hot, I don’t get handsome, I don’t get “stud” (that even makes me laugh,) I get “cute”. I never know how to take that. My response is always “That’s what I was going for today” in my best scarcastic style. I think girls can be cute but can guys? (That’s a blatant call for comments folks!)

Don’t get me wrong I take the compliment but it’s something I always wondered.

Maybe I’m just making a deal out of nothing. I guess I’m just cute. I guess this post has been therapeutic.

  1. Yeah, I’m not sure I like being “cute.”

I don’t really want to be “hot” either.

Cute for me is in the same department with “he’s sweet” – i.e. I’d never date him, but he’ll make a good friend.

Maybe that’s ME making a big deal outta nothing, but I’ve never been a fan 🙂

I know what you mean though…it does put you in an odd place, whenever someone says something like that….

    I like your response…funny.

  2. I have a few adjectives I would like to insert.

See? I cannot even leave a comment without it sounding dirty.

By the way, penises are cute. Puppies. Puppies! I meant puppies.

  3. You are a handsome man – I think the term “cute” just gets thrown out there more. Hey – it could be worse – you could have hit a couple of those branches and not not be cute or hot! ‘s all good.

  4. Here’s how I define those words….

Cute – a guy who looks young, boyish and is sweet. ALL girls like cute guys, so take it as a compliment! I disagree with matt; girls DO date cute guys!

Hott – not cute, not exactly handsome, but exudes lots of sexuality. Johnny Depp is Hott (IMO, of course).

Handsome – I use it rarely. Kind of reserved for someone at least 30 years old and wearing a suit.

I haven’t used the term “stud” since the 80’s – I think the word “hott” has replaced that term.

  5. My eight year old daughter calls boys ‘cute’. It’s kinda a girlie word, IMO. Mind you, she’s been moving onto describing boys at ‘hot’ so maybe I should be worried! Too much tv, I think!

I can see your point but hey, at least it’s a compliment, I suppose! 😉

Personally, in my house, I’d take ‘cute’ over the usual, ‘What’s for dinner?’ anyday! Rofl!

And here in Australia, you’d be known as a ‘cute bloke’ or a ‘hot bloke’ or a ‘handsome bloke’ (ok, we do use ‘guy’ and ‘man’ too)! Does that sound better?????

  6. You’re cute 🙂

Seriously, a guy may be hot but is it appropriate for me to go up to him and tell him so?

    No.

So I’d tell him, “you’re so cute,” with that want-to-pinch-something tone.

  7. If I were a guy, I would rather be called cute. Girls definitely go for cute guys. I think I would be intimidated by a traditionally “handome” guy (I’m thinking of Pierce Brosnan for some reason). Cute guys are so much more approachable.

Mel’s mind is in the gutter (as usual).

  8. *RANT* See, the thing is, “cute” has become the all-purpose generic feminine term for “good” or “I like it.” Shoes are “cute”, curtains are “cute”, pottery is “cute”, EVERYTHING is “cute.” Whether it’s actually “cute” (as in “puppies are cute”) or not.

So “You’re cute” could mean anything from “I like your shirt” to “I want to have wild monkey sex with you.”
